We’re hiring

Geotechnical Engineer

Run your own geotechnical projects across Vancouver Island, from first site visit to sealed report. One opening, intermediate or senior.

Full-time On-site Victoria, BC Intermediate to Senior Field & design

About Coast Geotechnical

We’re building a different kind of geotechnical firm. Independent, family owned, and proudly local, we keep decisions fast and put you directly alongside senior professionals, with nothing between you and interesting work. Here you’ll run projects, meet clients, and see your work built.

The Role

We are hiring a full-time, on-site Geotechnical Engineer in Victoria, BC. One opening, open to intermediate and senior candidates; title, scope, and pay will match your experience. You will carry projects from scoping through investigation, analysis, and reporting across residential, commercial, land development, and municipal infrastructure: slope assessments, foundations, retaining walls, shoring, and difficult site conditions.

The work is a mix of field and office: overseeing drilling and test pits one week, running stability models and writing reports the next. You manage your own budgets and schedules and work directly with clients and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and run geotechnical investigations: drilling, test pits, CPT, and instrumentation
  • Analyse subsurface data and design foundations, slopes, settlement, seismic, earthworks, retaining walls, and excavation support
  • Write reports and recommendations clients can act on; at the senior level, review and seal others’ reports
  • Manage your project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and clients
  • Review construction in progress and field contractor questions
  • Guide EITs and field staff; at the senior level, mentor intermediate engineers
  • Contribute to proposals; at the senior level, lead them and the client relationships behind them
  • Travel throughout Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island, with occasional overnight work

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible within the first year for intermediate candidates
  • Four or more years of geotechnical experience, preferably in consulting; eight or more for senior
  • Experience supporting or leading field programs and writing geotechnical reports
  • Working knowledge of GeoStudio, Rocscience, or similar
  • Strong writing and communication skills; comfortable with clients, contractors, and reviewers
  • Valid BC driver’s licence and clean driving record
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada; we are unable to sponsor work permits for this position
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and on active construction sites

Who You Are

You want to own projects, not pieces of them. You care about getting the ground right because you know what happens when someone doesn’t. You write to be understood, you answer the phone, and you show up. Whether you are growing into a senior role or already in one, you want a firm that will invest in that.

Compensation

This is a salaried position. The expected pay range is CAD $105,000–$160,000 per year. Intermediate candidates typically land in the lower half and senior candidates in the upper half, depending on experience, P.Eng. status, and responsibility.

We offer extended health and dental benefits, paid vacation, mentorship from senior P.Eng. professionals, and a mix of field, lab, and design work.
